Do you have passion for supporting military families and understanding of the unique challenges they face, are organised, reliable, and detail-oriented – able to manage complexity and maintain systems.  Have emotional intelligence and empathy – able to handle sensitive conversations with families affected by cancer.  Are proactive and solution-focused – identifies problems and brings recommendations, not just reports issues, can work independently and collaboratively – manage own time and projects while supporting a team.  Understands military culture and values – respect for hierarchy, team orientation, resilience

Military vs Cancer is a rapidly growing South Yorkshire-based charity (Charity Number 1199115) with a nationwide mission to provide vital support to individuals and families within the military community affected by cancer.

Founded on the values of camaraderie and resilience, the charity has experienced remarkable growth from supporting 8 families in its first year to 90 families in 2025, with ambitious but achievable projections of supporting 400-500 families annually by 2028.

Our charity operates with the rigorous standards derived from military principles, ensuring effective service delivery and accountability. We provide practical assistance, emotional support, and opportunities for respite to serving personnel, veterans, and their families, fostering hope and resilience through every step of their cancer journey.

Current Team Structure (Our lean but highly effective team comprises:

Leadership:

  • (CEO) – Full-time, retired Royal Navy Warrant Officer with extensive military leadership experience
  • (Events Manager) – Full-time, leads event delivery and acts as Deputy CEO
  • (Clinical Lead) – Part-time, clinical assessment and beneficiary liaison

Governance & Support:

  • Board of Trustees led by experienced Chair with charitable, commercial and military expertise
  • Finance Committee providing monthly financial oversight
  • 16+ dedicated volunteers supporting event delivery and operations
  • Patrons and Ambassadors representing high-ranking officers (current and retired) across all three services, and the next generation of personnel and supporters
  • New Hires (2026): Executive Assistant (this role, starting January) and Marketing & Fundraising Officer (starting February)

This structure positions MvC for sustainable growth to 4-5 FTE by 2028 supporting 400-500 families annually.
